The Entangled Wood

€10,000.00

The Entangled Wood is a kiln-fired, plated stained glass work in which imagery is developed through successive firings and layered glass surfaces. This process allows depth, tonal variation, and detailed surface textures.

The imagery draws on ideas of non-fixed worlds and forms of existence that sit outside specific geographical or temporal locations. Referencing shared mythologies that recur across cultures and eras, the work proposes a space where boundaries between places, species, and identities remain fluid rather than defined.

Hybrid forms of flora and fauna evolve through an intuitive making process supported by research. These forms suggest mutualistic relationships, where co-habitation is based on interdependence rather than hierarchy. The work invites consideration of porous identity and ecological entanglement, foregrounding coexistence as an active and reciprocal condition.

This work will be exhibited in two iterations in 2026 - firstly as a wall hung illuminated stained glass light panel in Waterford University Hospital as part of the Well Festival in Feb and then as a ‘coffee table’ in a multidisciplinary installation called ‘Wild Wisdom from a Grúagach’s Lair’ - a solo show that presents a magical, otherworldly handmade domestic space as a site of feminist resistance to a capitalist consumer aesthetic. This work will be shown in the Gallery of Modern Art, Waterford (GOMA) in Oct 2026
