Horizons in Flight is an illuminated stained glass light panel created in 2026 for the MRI department at Wexford General Hospital. (90 cm x 150 cm)
Developed through site visits and research at Wexford Wildfowl Reserve, the work draws on the estuary and wetlands landscape of County Wexford, where migratory birds gather and move with the rhythm of the tide. Their flight suggests endurance, freedom and renewal, echoing the hospital’s focus on waiting and wellbeing.
The composition brings together birds, plant forms and flowing organic lines to create a sense of openness and calm. Rooted in research around the positive effects of nature imagery, the work offers a quiet visual refuge and a gentle connection to the world beyond the clinical setting.
Handmade using kiln-fired stained glass, the panel is built through layers of painted and fired glass, allowing light to pass through colour and texture. This process creates a soft, luminous surface that invites slow looking and reflection.
Conceived as a permanent installation, Horizons in Flight brings warmth, attentiveness and a sense of stillness into the hospital environment, holding space for moments of pause, care and renewal.
